A spokeswoman for the San Bernardino County sheriff's office said the near weeklong manhunt for fired LAPD officer Christopher Dorner earlier this month will cost the department more than a half-million dollars.

The initial estimate is $550,000 for the search and investigation.

Up to 125 deputies — which includes the department's SWAT team — hunted for Dorner, who is believed to have killed four people in a revenge motivated rampage after being firing from the Los Angeles Police Department.

A Sno-Cat, helicopters, armored vehicles, heat-seeking technology, and 10 other agencies assisted in the search of the San Bernardino Mountains during a winter storm.

Dorner was reported dead inside a burned cabin after a Feb. 12 gunfight.

A spokesman for the Los Angeles Police Department says their costs have not yet been determined.
