Backers of the fourth installment in the "Transformers" franchise announced Thursday that four humans will win roles in the upcoming film.
The untraditional casting will be determined by a Chinese television program with a very catchy title, "'Transformers 4' Chinese Actors Talent Search Reality Show."
The series will begin airing in June and will be open to professionals and amateurs.
Two "Transformers" roles will go to professional Chinese actors; two will go to individuals with no acting experience. The ability to turn into a laser-fighting robot race car is neither required, nor encouraged.
The judges include "Transformers" producer Lorenzo DiBonaventura and Sid Ganis, former Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences president who now heads Jiaflix Enterprises — the company which helped broker a production-assistance deal for the film between Paramount Pictures and China Movie Channel.
"Transformers 4," starring Mark Wahlberg and directed by Michael Bay, is due in theaters in June 2014.
