'Grumpy Cat' meme finally says yes to something — a Hollywood movie deal

Seems an Internet-famous feline has been scratching around L.A.'s glittering litterbox of movie stars. We've heard that Hollywood changes people. This just in, it also changes cats.

"Grumpy Cat," the Internet's most dependably surly kitty meme," has changed the tune of her meow and finally said "YES!" to something — the possibility of a promising film career.

According to Deadline, this salty sourpuss could be the next Hollywood sweetheart.

It's a properly functioning reflex that questions the merits of morphing a meme into a movie. However, there is proven treasure in the chest of board games, amusement park rides, arcade classics, kids toys and other alt-medium products that have have found a second home in Hollywood.

And, given the stale cabinet of sequels, threequels, prequels, reboots, remakes, do-overs, and "The College Years" that have assaulted our screens for decades, we should probably encourage the untraditional sourcing.

Reports Deadline:

More depressing news for humans who can’t get a Hollywood movie made. Grumpy Cat, the cranky-faced kitty voted Meme of the Year at the 2013 Webby Awards, has a shot at getting her famous sourpuss on the big screen.

Broken Road’s Todd Garner and Sean Robins, and Grumpy Cat’s reps (manager Ben Lashes and rep Al Hassas) have teamed up to produce and assemble a package for a Garfield-like feature film with the famous frowning feline at the center. Here, Grumpy Cat (real name Tardar Sauce) will be given the power of speech.

"This started off as a picture of a cat, but rare is an image that evokes that much comedy," Garner told Deadline. "You read all of the memes and the comments, and one is funnier than the next. We think we can build a big family comedy around this character."

The cat's official Facebook page is slinking toward 1,000,000 "Likes" (952,700 likes at the time of publication) and the official YouTube channel has logged upwards of 20 million views and 121,000 subscribers.

Hopefully not letting any cats out of any (sustainable, reusable) bags, Buzzfeed has clawed off a Top 10 list of possible story lines for our begrudgingly well-groomed protagonist. A short blurb accompanies each masterpiece-in-waiting back on the original post Buzzfeed post:
