Adrin Nazarian, a candidate for the state Assembly's 46th District, was endorsed today by the California Teachers Association.

The California Teachers Association endorsed the leading candidate in a state Assembly race in the San Fernando Valley today, after appearing to have knocked a pro-charter candidate out of the runoff.

The chief of staff to Los Angeles City Councilman Paul Krekorian, Adrin Nazarian, received 27.1 percent of the vote in the June 5 primary, according to the latest results posted by the Secretary of State’s Office.

“When it comes to protecting the funding of our public schools and empowering teachers, parents and local schools to improve learning environments, there is no doubt in our minds that Adrin Nazarian is the best choice for our students, our schools and our state,” said Dean E. Vogel, president of the California Teachers Association.

In the primary for the 46th District, the union backed attorney Andrew Lachman, who placed fourth in the contest, according to the latest results. The California Teachers Association also actively campaigned against pro-charter candidate Brian Johnson, spending more than $400,000 on independent expenditures to defeat him.
