Randy Newman, lonely at the bottom of an online poll in October, rebounded to claim a well-deserved slot among the 2013 inductees. The caustic composer and singer/songwriter/pianist told Rolling Stone that he didn't expect to be inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame while he was still alive.
"I really thought maybe I'd have to die first...I didn't think it would happen if it didn't happen, you know, a little earlier. But this is great. I'm really glad it happened when I was still around to see it."
