Jane Goodall, the renowned anthropologist, researcher, author, and world's foremost expert on chimpanzees, will serve as Grand Marshal at the 2013 Tournament of Roses Parade in Pasadena, it was announced Wednesday.

Goodall was named at a ceremony in the Tournament's rose garden. Though she has not attended the parade or game before, she said, "It symbolizes some of the best in human nature. It symbolizes imagination, it symbolizes technology -- the way the floats have evolved -- and it symbolizes endeavor and courage on the part of the players who take place in the Rose Bowl game."

Parade officials say Goodall's adventures made her great pick for this year's Seuss-ian theme, "Oh, the Places You’ll Go."
