Suspect leads deputies on pursuit before barricading himself inside a Hawthorne apartment.
After leading authorities on a high speed chase and pushing a female shooting victim out of a car, an armed suspect abandoned his barricade and surrendered to authorities early Friday morning.
Juan Diego Valencia, 30, exited a Hawthorne apartment in the 14,000 block of Chadron Avenue, and turned himself in to LASD Special Enforcement deputies at approximately 1:50 a.m.
The dramatic incident began Thursday around 11:15 p.m. when a deputy attempted to stop the suspect in a green Mercury Cougar in Lynwood for vehicle code violations.
The car pulled over near the 4100 block of Alma Avenue. A gunshot was heard, and the deputy observed a flash from inside the car. The suspect then sped away at a high rate of speed, according to a LASD news release.
Valencia, a Los Angeles resident, led authorities on a pursuit, pushing a yet unidentified woman out of the car at the intersection of Josephine Street and Harris Avenue in Lynwood.
