Writer clarifies the quote that 'Pacquiao never said'
The controversial Manny Pacquaio interview where the fighter allegedly disparaged gay men was clarified Wednesday by the writer who calls the misunderstanding "a fatal twist" of his report.
The Examiner's Granville Ampong explained that, "Pacquiao never said nor recited, nor invoked and nor did he ever refer to such context," speaking about the provocative Bible passage that was incorrectly attributed to the Filipino boxer in news reports that stemmed from Ampong's recent post.
In addressing President Obama's stance on legalizing gay marriage, Pacquiao, a Roman Catholic, said in the interview, "God's words first ... obey God's law first before considering the laws of man." The additional Leviticus context was provided Ampong, the writer admitted.
The popular brawler and politician, named the 4th "Most Influential Athlete" in the world this year by Forbes, trains in Los Angeles and was scheduled to appear on the syndicated celebrity tv show "Extra" Wednesday at The Grove to promote his upcoming bout.
