Encyclopedias are out, dictionaries are in.
The San Bernardino City Unified School District system learned the meaning of "philanthropic" on Tuesday when the Rotary Club put a dictionary in the hands of every third-grader in the district, reports the SB Sun.
Retired superintendent E. Neal Roberts and San Bernardino Rotary Club President Sheldon Ewell personally handed out the free books to all third grade classes at E. Neal Roberts Elementary School.
This is a bright spot in California education which finds itself in the midst of a storm of seemingly endless scandals about teachers allegedly being inappropriate with their students.
In all, the club donated 5,000 dictionaries -- both English and Bilingual, notes the paper.
