No suicide note was left by Junior Seau, the former USC All-American and 12-time NFL Pro Bowl linebacker, found dead by his girlfriend Wednesday morning at his Oceanside home, say authorities.

No foul play was suspected, and though few details have been released, police say the athlete appears to have died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound to the chest.

"Life-saving efforts were performed, however they were not successful," said Oceanside Police Chief Frank McCoy, reports NBC LA. "This case at this point is being investigated as a suicide," McCoy continued.

His mother Luisa Seau said she was in church when she heard the news, "I pray to God, 'Take me, take me, leave my son.' But it's too late," she told reporters at an impromptu press conference.

A neighbor said he saw Seau smiling and happy and playing the ukulele on his balcony just two days ago, notes the L.A. Times.

Junior Seau, former San Diego Charger has been found dead at his home in Oceanside.

Junior Seau, a former USC and San Diego Charger star linebacker, is being reported dead by multiple news outlets.

Oceanside police arrived at the 12-time Pro Bowler's home early Wednesday, says the U-T San Diego, responding to 911 call about a possible suicide.

Seau, 43, who was divorced, leaves behind three children.

"Everyone at the Chargers is in complete shock and disbelief right now. We ask everyone to stop what they're doing and send their prayers to Junior and his family," the Chargers said in a statement that was posted on their website.

In 2010, a mere nine hours after he was arrested for suspicion of domestic abuse upon his 25-year-old girlfriend, Seau fell asleep at the wheel and drove his Cadillac Escalade off a seaside cliff in Carlsbad. He was hospitalized with minor injuries and police did not find any evidence of drugs or alcohol in his system. Seau was never charged for either incident.
