It took a few canisters of tear gas to evict a suspected car thief from the attic of someone else’s house following a three-hour standoff in San Bernardino on Tuesday, police said.

The San Bernardino Sun reports that the suspect, described only as a Latino man, was pulled over in a reportedly stolen car yesterday at about 9:45 a.m. Rather than greet officers, however, the man ran into a nearby home at the corner of Acacia Avenue and 10th Street and barricaded himself in the attic, police said.

Police, not knowing whether the man was armed, set up a perimeter and called in the SWAT teams. (Check out the Sun story for cool pictures of SWAT teams marching around the house.)

No one was injured during the standoff, but three residents were inside the house at the time the suspect entered it -- and quickly got out of there.
