Another thing the Metro Library is good for, old photos: this is the Glendale Line. Burbank terminal. 1st day of 1-man service. Left: J. C. Jeffreys, President Burbank Chamber of Commerce. Center: George Pardon, President Burbank Jr Chamber of Commerce. Right: Ade Banks, Burbank Times staff. 1/7/1950.
If you haven't explored it yet, the Los Angeles Metro Library and Transportation Archive on YouTube is kind of amazing. This video was (presumably) shot in the late 80s. Metro was known as the clunkier Southern California Rapid Transit District then. Watching this, I can only imagine the looks on the faces of newly hired SCRTD maintenance workers. My favorite line, on worker truancy: "While you were out there getting your yuks, the public was out five million bucks."
That's a pricey sick day.
