If you're confident in your grilling abilities -- or you just really like to eat grilled cheese sandwiches -- you might want to check out the 11th Annual Grilled Cheese Invitational. The GCI is a cooking competition with grilling categories that range from the everyday to the extraordinary -- like "Love, American Style: White bread, butter, orange cheese (American or Cheddar). NOTHING ELSE." And for the more daring, there's "The Kama Sutra: A sandwich of the savory nature, with any type of bread, butter and cheese PLUS additional ingredients, and the interior ingredients must be at least 60% cheese."

Past entries have included "The LoveKraft" with octopus confit, squid-ink chèvre, and mint-pistachio sauce; and "Tongue and Cheese" with beef tongue, habanero cilantro lime aioli, red onion jam and smoked cheddar.

The competition takes place April 20 at the Los Angeles Center Studios, 1201 West Fifth Street , Los Angeles, 90017. Tickets are $12 if you buy in advance. More info on the GCI website
