Today is Monday, April 8, and here is what's happening in Los Angeles:


In Rick Orlov's Tipoff column, a field aide to Councilman Paul Krekorian runs for Assembly, Wendy Greuel and Eric Garcetti disagree over poll numbers, and Burbank takes an emotional hit as the "Tonight Show" leaves.

Endorsements: Council President Herb Wesson and former Council members Nate Holden and Rita Walters backed Eric Garcetti over the weekend. Rep. Maxine Waters will endorse Wendy Greuel later this morning. Over at the Los Angeles Times, writer Jim Newton questions the importance of endorsements.

Candidates for the Ninth District -- Curren Price and Ana Cubas -- are working to increase voter turnout in South Los Angeles, reports KPCC.

The Republican National Committee's spring meeting will be in Los Angeles April 10-13. The LA Weekly questions why the Republicans would come to Los Angeles. "After all this is the medical marijuana capital of the nation, the home of the angry immigrants' rights protester, the American epicenter of powerful City Hall unions, a gay rights beacon and the place where porn is made -- all things Republicans seem to hate."

The Los Angeles Times remembers Alex Renteria, a Homeboy Diner employee who was killed in a car crash. "Alex had expressive eyebrows that arched comically when he told jokes. He loved old-school R&B and freestyle music and was proud of his weekend job as a mover," according to The Times.

The Iron Lady, Margaret Thatcher, has died at the age of 87. The New York Times.


Wendy Greuel and Rep. Maxine Waters will hold an availability together at 10 a.m. on the First Street Steps of City Hall.

Eric Garcetti will talk about supporting businesses at the Hollywood Business Source Center at 11:30 a.m.
