Congressional candidate Wendy Greuel is being backed by Emily's List, which also supported her mayoral run.
Emily's List announced Friday its endorsement of Wendy Greuel as she runs to succeed Rep. Henry Waxman in the 33rd Congressional District, calling her a "strong voice for women and families."
The PAC that supports pro-choice Democratic women candidates nationwide also supported Greuel in her mayoral campaign. Gruel won't have to compete with outgoing L.A. County Supervisor Zev Yaroslavsky in her campaign for the Westside congressional seat.
Yaroslavsky confirmed Friday that he won't be running to replace Waxman, whom he described as a friend and role model.
"In the end, I decided against starting a new career in Congress at this stage of my life," Yaroslavsky said in a statement. "I said in 2012 that four decades in elected office was long enough, and I meant it." He added that he expects to continue in public service, but not as an elected official.
Sen. Ted Lieu (D-Torrance) is running for the seat. Author Marianne Williamson is running as an independent, as is Brent Roske, producer of the web series "Chasing the Hill."
