"Los Angeles-Istanbul Connection" art exhibit

This event took place on:
Saturday, May 7, 6pm -Monday, May 30, 9pm
Location

Los Angeles-Istanbul Connection features five Turkish and five Los Angeles artists whose work has been juxtaposed at the 18th Street Arts Center in Santa Monica.

The exhibition is a curatorial collaboration between Saliha Kasap, an Istanbul-based artist, and Arzu Arda Kosar, a resident artist at the 18th Street Arts Center.

Inspired by experimental art from the Istanbul and Los Angeles art worlds, Kasap and Kosar selected works by five contemporary Turkish artists from the contemporary scene in Istanbul.

The exhibit pairs these works with five local counterparts who work in a similar vein, such as Alper Sen’s video documentary on discarded material next to Blair Townsend’s rug made of superfluous plastic toys and Ozan Oganer’s lace sculpture which corresponds with Carol Es’ work that incorporates elements of sewing.

An opening reception will take place on May 7 from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at the 18th Street Arts Center Project Room.

The exhibit will run through May 30. More details can be found here.
