89.3 KPCC’s Crawford Family Forum proudly presented “True That: Real Stories for Grown Folks — Summer in the City.” Professional storytellers BK Bomar, Nick Smith and Michael McCarty took the CFF stage with tales factually rooted and fantastically spun. Musicians Severin Browne (former Motown artist/songwriter) and Clarence “Chazz” Ross accompanied the storytellers and made their own songs heard.
- "Storytelling is my connection to the world and the people; it is my outlet of releasing the images bottled inside, my experiences and the hilarious moments encountered. He will be sharing a story called, 'I have twelve and a half minutes.'"

He works with children and teens at the Pasadena Public Library.
Michael D. McCarty
- "My Mom was my storyteller. She told me stories, read me stories and always reminded me of the importance of reading. She instilled in me the conviction that I could be anything I wanted to be. In 1992 I met Joel ben Izzy, a professional storyteller. I picked his brain and vowed that I was going to become a professional teller too. Since them I’ve been running my mouth around the country and around the world. I love my job!"
