Now through May 6, works by an array of mid-20th-century female Surrealist artists will be on display in the Resnick Pavilion at the Los Angeles Country Museum of Art. Together with the Museo de Arte Moderno, Mexico, LACMA is showcasing pieces from iconic figures such as Frida Kahlo, Kay Sage, Lenora Carrington and Remedios Varo.
The exhibit, called "In Wonderland: The Surrealist Adventures of Women Artists in Mexico and the United States,” includes a variety of creations ranging from 1931 to 1968, along with some later works “that demonstrate Surrealism’s influence on the feminist movement,” according to the LACMA website.
A book of the same title is also available. It further delves into the complexities of North American women artists’ role in the Surrealist movement, as their male counterparts often overshadowed their contributions.
“In Wonderland” has already received praise from “Vogue” and “The Wall Street Journal.”
Museum hours vary.
Admission: $15-$20
