In March 2012 Rob Schmitz reported that a story by Mike Daisey on working conditions at the Foxconn factory in China (where Apple manufactures iPhones and iPads) had been fabricated. Daisey's account had already aired on This American Life; Rob's report led to an unprecedented retraction of that story. Working conditions; on-the-ground reports from the hardest-hit areas near the failing Fukushima nuclear power plant; examination of the Chinese education system; the economic transformation of the coal-rich region of Inner Mongolia. It’s all part of the daily beat for Marketplace’s China correspondent Rob Schmitz. On a break from his Shanghai desk, he joined KPCC’s John Rabe at the Crawford Family Forum with an inside look at the complex society of China.
