The contemporary dance performance from The Wooden Floor titled "Front door, blue sky" extracts the beauty in the youth of the dancers, while striking at the tremendous depth of their life circumstances.
These young artists, who come from extremely low-income backgrounds, are presenting work that is in conversation with the latest trends, co-created with award-winning contemporary dance choreographers and top-of-their-field designers.
In doing so, they are reaffirming – to themselves, and to the audience - that who they are and what they have to say matters.
May 29 - 31, 2014
Performances 8pm nightly, with a 2:30pm matinee performance on May 31
Organization description from the sponsor:
At The Wooden Floor, we use dance as a vehicle for transformation in the students we serve because there is so much learning involved. Creativity and expression are catalysts for positive change through the process of inventive art-making. When these young artists are applauded by an audience, they know that they are seen, that they matter. Our long-term artistic immersion is integrated with mentoring, comprehensive academic support, college readiness, and family support services to provide a solid platform for advancement and success. Since 2005, 100 percent of The Wooden Floor’s graduates have finished high school on-time and pursued higher education. This is about three-times the national average for their socioeconomic peers.
