First Fridays 2008: Discovery in the Age of Mammals
May 02, 2008   5:30pm - 10:00pm
How Does Evolution Build a Complex Brain? The First Fridays series continues its exploration of mammal brains Dr. Leah Krubitzer who will discuss her work examining the evolution of mammalian brains and how the evolution in brain complexity is reflected in an increase in complex sensory, perceptual and cognitive behaviors. The evening also features a curator-guided tour of the Ancient Latin America Hall-where visitors are invited to compare the distinctive styles and forms created by the various ancient societies of pre-Columbian America-- guided by NHM curator and archaeologist Dr. Karen Wise.
A special performance by the folk-inspired Akron/Family will be followed by The Dodos, a two-member band whose music has been described as "frenetic and joyful." Dublab DJs Carlos Niño and Morpho will spin throughout the night.
