When you get on a public bus or train in Southern California, how safe do you feel? Are you confident that the driver or conductor is well trained? That your fellow passengers will leave you in peace? That the bus or train has been well-maintained?
Why ask about safety now? Over a weekend in late May, a Metro bus driver was shot and killed by a lone passenger on his bus, according to police. In the same month, Metro rail executives responded to concerns that a tight turn on the Blue Line near downtown was creating excessive wear on the trains and presenting a potential danger for derailing.
Those are just recent stories in the news -- what are you seeing in your daily public transit use? What public transit issues are under-reported?
