During a visit today to Los Angeles-area air and seaports, federal Homeland Security secretary Janet Napolitano reviewed measures in place to help ensure that passengers and cargo will be safe. Napolitano toured behind the scenes at L.A. International Airport:

Janet Napolitano: “There are so many things happening at LAX right now, it’s really amazing from again physical barriers along the perimeter of the airport to putting in better baggage, X-ray type machinery that actually will allow us to move more baggage more quickly.”

Napolitano told KPCC’s “Patt Morrison” that drivers of container trucks at the Port of Los Angeles will be required to carry special identification starting tomorrow. The new IDs are available only to truckers who’ve undergone security background checks.
