Several hundred people attending a Los Angeles arts town hall today heard encouraging words about the outlook for Southland cultural organizations.
Organizer Cora Mirikitani said the event was an opportunity for leaders of Southland arts groups to find out how other groups are making ends meet.
Cora Mirikitani: "We recognize we’re in a, not only a local, but a national and a global recession and that’s going to have a severe impact, not only on arts organizations and artists but the people who fund them. And so we wanted to surface what that means in dollars and cents as well as what opportunities there are to innovate and change in a time when there’s less resource."
Panelists outlined more effective ways to reach potential audiences and to convince the public and elected officials that independent arts groups are important community assets.
