Officials at Westwood's Hammer Museum today previewed the contemporary art museum's upcoming exhibits.
Hammer Chief Curator Douglas Fogle says the institution's July-through-October exhibit "Second Nature" shines a spotlight on innovative Southland sculptors.
Douglas Fogle: "Now with the great art schools here – UCLA and Art Center, and CalArts, and Otis – and many other artists coming into town from New York and setting up shop here, sculpture's seen a resuscitation, a revisiting, a rethinking, an expansion in a younger generation of artists."
Unlike many cultural institutions in Los Angeles, the weak economy isn't forcing the Hammer to cancel exhibits or lay off employees. Museum Director Ann Philbin says the museum invested its endowment conservatively and continues to watch its finances closely.
