Starting tomorrow, it’ll cost $15 to park at the Getty Center and Getty Villa. That’s up from $10.
Ron Hartwig with the J. Paul Getty Trust says the recession has hit the museums just as it has most art institutions across the country.
Ron Hartwig: "We spent a great deal of time as we were preparing the FY10 fiscal year budget looking at ways that we could save money so as to minimize the need to have layoffs."
Hartwig says the Getty still had to lay off 91 staffers. He also points out that parking will be free at the Getty Center after 5 o’clock for visitors to weeknight events and on Saturdays, when the museum near the 405 Freeway stays open until 9 o’clock. Admission to the Getty Center and Getty Villa remains free.
