San Pedro criminal defense attorney Carmen Trutanich was sworn in as Los Angeles city attorney today. Trutanich, who’s also a former gang prosecutor, promised to bring independence and integrity to the office during a speech on the south lawn of City Hall.
Carmen Trutanich: "Let me say this loud and clear so everybody hears it. We will not roll over. We will not roll over to billboard companies. We will not roll over to corrupt developments. We will not roll over to polluters. And given my background I can assure you we will not roll over to gang members."
Trutanich replaces Rocky Delgadillo, who was termed out of office. Wendy Gruel was sworn in today as city controller. Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa took the oath of office for a second term. He pledged to make job creation his top priority.
