Getting ready for the 4th in DC
Washington DC has had more than two centuries of practice celebrating the nation’s birthday. KPCC’s Washington Correspondent Kitty Felde checks in from the National Mall for an update on this year’s celebration.
If you’re looking for signs of the 4th of July here in Washington, D.C., look no further than the National Mall and all of the port-a-potties that have been set up. They’re more prevalent than American flags. They’re getting ready for the huge national concert that’ll happen on the west side of the Capitol building.
There’s a large tent there and right in front of me, there’s a very large truck carrying extra lighting for the event. Everybody from Aretha Franklin to Barry Manilow will be singing. And the concert will be followed by fireworks over the Washington Monument.
