Barbara Boxer's committee tackles climate change
When the House voted on a climate change bill, it was L.A. Democrat Henry Waxman who led the charge. Now the ball is in the Senate’s court – and another Californian is playing a leadership role. KPCC’s Washington correspondent Kitty Felde reports.
Kitty Felde: Democratic Senator Barbara Boxer told fellow members of her Environment and Public Works Committee that fighting climate change can also battle a bad economy. Just look at California, she said, where investing in clean energy created more than 125,000 new jobs over a decade.
U.S. News
Senator Barbara Boxer: In California, which has been one of the hardest hit by the housing crisis and the financial crisis, the area that has out-performed every other has been the creation of clean energy jobs and businesses.
Felde: Three cabinet secretaries urged Boxer’s committee to pass a climate change bill this summer. Republicans say China and India aren’t interested in reducing their carbon emissions – and they question whether U.S. action alone could lower the world’s temperature.

As a Californian I support the passage of a climate change act. I would encourage it to include solutions for America's pulp and paper mills. The are currently getting a tax credit for burning harmful diesel fuels along with "black liquor", which is a byproduct of papermaking. The addition of diesel fuel to the fuel mix is harmful to the environment. We should not reward industries that continue to pollute.
thanks for your consideration.

I hope the committee is able to move forward with significant legislation. We can't afford to wait any longer

This bill will do nothing to save the planet since human carbon production doesn't affect the climate. Please look at both sides of the issue before voting on this bill. There is a debate, and many legitimate scientist do not agree with the notion that humans are the major cause of climate change. I am not willing to give up my freedom to please environmental groups with an agenda that will hurt the economy and enslave us to useless regulations.
Thank you for your consideration.

Bankrupting CA is not enough for these idiots. Will we be buying and selling carbon credits with IOUs? I cannot why the people of CA continue to send Marxists to Washington that hate the country, the people that contribute to them and humans in general. Global Warming/Climate Change is a hoax and a LIE. The Earth is getting colder. Even NASA admits it.
