It's taken awhile, but 200 years after his birth, the novelist Edgar Allan Poe’s reputation has improved.
His contemporaries regarded him as a second-rate scribe, but actor Jeffery Combs is able to portray a writer who’s widely acknowledged now as a literary genius.
Jeffery Combs: “I was looking also for a character, a historical character, to play, and so I was reading books, biographies, and I came across Poe, and physically I am exactly the same height as him. There are quit a few differences between me and Mr. Poe, but I kind of share the same physique as him, so it got me thinking.”
Combs spoke with KPCC’s "Patt Morrison." His one-man show “Nevermore: An Evening with Edgar Allan Poe” continues Fridays through Sundays at Hollywood’s Steve Allen Theater until August 2nd.
