The United States needs a healthcare overhaul to help rebuild its economy, President Barack Obama asserted during a news conference Wednesday night.
On KPCC’s AirTalk, UCLA health policy expert Gerald Kominski suggested that the Obama administration’s proposal focuses more on medical insurance reform.
Gerald Kominski: “This reform is largely aimed at changing the financing of health care. And I think, you know, many analysts and long-time observers of the American healthcare system recognize it’s the financing that needs to be fundamentally reformed in order to get everyone insured.”
The president had wanted Congress to vote on his health care reform plan before its August recess, but Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid has said that might not happen.
