Station Fire's erratic behavior heightens threat to homeowners
Steve Whitmore of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department says there’s little rhyme or reason in the behavior of the Station Fire. He says that’s one reason it’s very important for people to heed mandatory evacuation orders.
Whitmore told KPCC’s Larry Mantle that in past fires, authorities typically have given residents about four hours to evacuate their homes.
Steve Whitmore: “This is not the case with this fire. Often times we are in a neighborhood and all of a sudden the fire just flares up and we’ve given an evacuation order to do so right now!”
Thousands of people remain under mandatory evacuation orders.
