Station Fire affects popular hiking trails
The San Gabriel Mountains contain some of the Southland’s most popular hiking trails, but people likely won’t be able to get to them for awhile.
The Angeles Chapter of the Sierra Club leads daily hikes in the San Gabriel Mountains. The Station Fire may change that routine, club spokesman Kent Schwitkis told KPCC’s Larry Mantle.
Kent Schwitkis: “There’s going to be a period of time where there’ll be restricted entrance into the areas to let the fauna and flora return as well as trails are going to be damaged from the increased erosion which is going to occur a few months down the line “
In the short run, Schwitkis said, his group will have to hike in other areas like the San Bernardino Mountains.
