Under state law, the governor may offer rewards up to $100,000 for information leading to the arrest and conviction of any person killing a firefighter in the line of duty. Los Angeles County Supervisor Mike Antonovich said today he will ask the Board of Supervisors on Tuesday to approve a $50,000 reward in the case.

Investigators announced Thursday that the fire, which has burned more than 148,000 acres and claimed the lives of two firefighters, was deliberately set, prompting a homicide investigation. Antonovich will introduce the motion for the reward at the board's regular meeting on Tuesday.

The Station Fire was started Aug. 26 and was 42 percent contained. Fire officials said they hope to have the blaze fully contained by Sept. 15.

Los Angeles County fire Capt. Tedmund "Ted" Hall, 47, of San Bernardino County, and firefighter Specialist Arnaldo "Arnie" Quinones, 35, of Palmdale, died about 2:30 p.m. Sunday when the vehicle they were in went off a road south of Acton, near Mount Gleason, and overturned, plunging more than 800 feet.
