Longtime Hollywood columnist Army Archerd died yesterday. He was 87 and suffered from a rare form of lung cancer. After the war, he went to work for Variety in 1953 and, in 1985, broke the story that Rock Hudson was being treated for AIDS. When he retired his daily column in 2005, he began blogging, and updating old columns – a sort of “then and now” look at celebrities.
Archerd spent the last 17 years working with Kirstin Wilder, now Variety’s managing editor. She spoke to KPCC's Steve Julian about how it was to work with the Variety veteran.
