There’s no more money to be squeezed from the California budget, so state lawmakers have come to the place where they print the money – Washington, D.C. KPCC’s Washington Correspondent Kitty Felde reports.

This is the second time this year that Assembly Speaker Karen Bass has come to Capitol Hill to lobby for cash. This trip, the Democrat from Los Angeles brought nearly two-dozen lawmakers from both parties to help make the case.

The list of funding priorities is long – a billion dollars for health care, investment in high speed rail, drought relief, and federal dollars for the state’s so-called “green economy.” And when they’re not talking money, state lawmakers have a few ideas of their own to throw into the health care debate.

After giving Congress a piece of their minds, the delegation will meet with several Cabinet members. But don’t worry that tax dollars were spent on the trip – each state lawmaker had to pay his or her own way.
