UCI Medical Center reveals serious warning

The hospital was warned over its drug pumps.

Officials at the University of California Irvine Medical Center admitted yesterday that state inspectors issued the hospital one of the most serious warnings possible. But the "immediate jeopardy" warning was lifted within 24 hours.

The inspectors issued the alert while investigating claims that faulty drug pumps caused five patients to overdose. Another overdose occurred while investigators were at the hospital.

Investigators determined that the pumps worked fine, but that nurses had put in the wrong doses.
No one was seriously hurt. The hospital says it will retrain nurses on how to use the pumps.
