Hundreds of counselors help homeowners renegotiate mortgages

Thousands of homeowners who need help to pay their mortgages are finding it at the Los Angeles Convention Center. The nonprofit Neighborhood Assistance Corporation of America has filled an exhibit hall with financial counselors and bank representatives to help families reduce their monthly payments. The organization hosts the five-day event as part of its “Save the Dream Tour.”

Many families at the Convention Center said they were able to reduce their mortgage payments by hundreds of dollars a month. The event continues from 9 in the morning until 8 at night through Monday. Walk-ins are welcome.

Katina Fields with the Neighborhood Assistance Corp of America spoke with KPCC’s Shirley Jahad.
