A teaching assistant describes the scene at UCLA's Young Hall when one chemistry student stabbed another in the neck.

Twenty-year-old UCLA student Damon Thompson remains behind bars for attempted murder after he stabbed a classmate Thursday in chemistry lab to the horror of other students in the room.

Students say Thompson held a 20-year-old female student down and stabbed her in the neck. She is recovering at UCLA Medical Center after undergoing surgery. Police have not released her name.

Jake Martins is a PhD student and teaching assistant who was in a lab down the hall. He tells KPCC's Shirley Jahad that students ran into his lab just after noon Thursday and asked him to call 911.
