Still no water deal flowing while clock ticks on governor's threat
No water deal on tap out of Sacramento so far. Governor Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers are meeting again today.
The governor has threatened to veto hundreds of bills on his desk unless a water agreement flows thru first. Schwarzenegger and state lawmakers met for several hours yesterday.
Some democrats are raising sharp objections to the governor's threat. "Its extortion of the worst kind," says Democratic Assemblyman Dave Jones of Sacramento. He says the governor’s threat would hold up a lot of people’s efforts "and would basically put a kabash on the work of hundreds of thousands of ordinary Californians who have come to the legislature to work on a variety of issues including bills that would bring in billions in funding for our fragile health care system. Bills that help with things like organ donation or making sure people have better access to health insurance. The list goes on and on and on."
Jones chairs the assembly health committee. He’s got one bill on the governor’s desk that would protect the rights of workers to sue for discrimination.
