Toddler killed in crash on Antelope Valley Freeway in Santa Clarita is identified

SANTA CLARITA - A toddler killed in collision on the Antelope Valley (14) Freeway in Santa Clarita was identified today as a 3-year-old from Monterey Park.

Nathalie Moctezuma died in the accident in which she was thrown from a Chevrolet Astro van driven by her grandfather, Martin Borunda, shortly before noon Saturday, according to a coroner's investigator and The Signal newspaper.

Borunda was headed north about a mile north of the junction with the Golden State (5) Freeway when the accident occurred.

According to the CHP, the front left tire shredded and the van struck a Toyota Camry and overturned on the driver's side.

The girl, pronounced dead at the scene, was pinned under the van. The CHP is investigating whether she was properly restrained.

The Camry driver, Borunda, his wife, and 24-year-old Rosa Maria Borunda, were all taken to hospitals to be treated.
