Orange County hosts its first free swine flu vaccine clinic this weekend. But it’s kicking off the flu season with free seasonal vaccine clinics first.

The seasonal flu vaccination clinics will be at Santa Ana College in Santa Ana, the Crystal Cathedral in Garden Grove, and Cox Communications in Rancho Santa Margarita from 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. tomorrow.

Each location will have at least 1,300 doses of seasonal flu vaccine. You can walk in or drive through to get your shot.

Officials say for them, it’s an emergency preparedness drill, to see if they can vaccinate a lot of people in a short amount of time.

They'll follow up the season flu clinics with H1N1 FluMist clinics Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Santa Ana College and Irvine Valley College. That vaccine will only be available for kids between the ages of 2 and 9 and adults under the age of 49 who care for babies less than 6 months old.

Children must get the swine flu vaccine twice. That’s why health officials want to get the started now. Officials expect to have several thousand doses of the swine flu vaccine available at the clinics.

Each year, seasonal flu claims about 36,000 lives in the U.S. It sends another 200,000 people to the hospital. Health officials say that’s why the seasonal flu vaccine is so important.

Fyi, just checked with Crystal Cathedral over the phone and they do not have swine flu shot even though their website says they are. They are offering the regular flue shot though.

Fyi Santa Ana College is only giving the seasonal flu shot tomorrow, not the swine flu one.

Please clarify, confirm or deny Preggo's comment regarding whether Santa Ana College will have the H1N1 flu shot tomorrow.

According to what they've released to CHOC employees , the answer is "no," they will NOT have H1N1, ONLY seasonal flu vaccines tomorrow; that is possibly also going to be in short supply in the near future as well as most vaccine preparation is going into H1N1.
