Social networking site Facebook says it has won a multi-million dollar award in an anti-spam case.

Facebook says the court in California awarded it $711 million in damages against Internet marketer Sanford Wallace. Facebook sued Wallace for accessing users’ accounts without their consent and sending phony messages.

Wallace earned the nicknames “Spam King” and “Spamford” as he headed a company that sent as many as 30 million junk e-mails a day in the 1990s. Last November, Facebook won an even larger judgment against a company that bombarded users with sexually explicit spam messages.
