MoveOn seeks to keep pressure on Southern California lawmakers on health care
MoveOn.org plans a health care rally outside Southern California congressman Henry Waxman's office.
The MoveOn notice doesn’t mention the intensifying debate over whether health care legislation should provide funding for abortions.
Instead, the group focuses on the House of Representatives’ decision to include a "public option" in the bill.
MoveOn members plan to publicly thank Congressman Henry Waxman for his support of the public option. During a midday rally outside Waxman’s Mid-City office, they also plan to seek a similar commitment from Senator Dianne Feinstein.
After she initially questioned the wisdom of providing a government-run health insurance plan, Feinstein has said she supports it.
In a statement 10 days ago, Feinstein said that “for-profit insurance companies have no moral compass” and that a public option is needed to offer Americans “high quality coverage at a lower price.”
California’s other senator Barbara Boxer also supports the public option.
Key Senate votes on the issues are expected next week.
