Community groups and mortgage lenders are offering a free foreclosure prevention fair Saturday Nov. 14 for homeowners in South Los Angeles.

Sponsors include the office of L.A.’s mayor, the Legal Aid Society, and commercial banks. Millicent Hill is with another sponsor, the organizing group ACORN in Watts.

"This area is really impacted by some of the foreclosures, so we want to try to stop that, give people information, educate them and see what we can do to let our communities continue to thrive."

Nonprofit housing counselors and attorneys will be available. So will lenders who can answer questions about loan modifications.

Sponsors say Los Angeles leads the state in foreclosures with more than 650 families a week at risk of losing their homes. The fair begins at 10 a.m. at the Mark Ridley-Thomas Constituent Service center on South Vermont Avenue.
