SHERMAN OAKS - Police today sought a gunman who shot a man in the leg in Sherman Oaks.

The shooting was reported in the 3400 block of Longridge Avenue about 5:45 a.m., said Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department's Media Relations section. The man, in his mid-30s, was taken to a hospital for treatment of a wound that was not believed life-threatening, police said.

The victim told police that a man wearing a ski mask and a black jacket approached him at the rear of the residence and fired a shotgun at him, said Richard French, an LAPD spokesman. Investigators were unsure of a motive for the shooting, French said.
