Southern Californians celebrate Thanksgiving at the beach

With temperatures in the 70s and 80s, some Southern Californians are celebrating their Thanksgiving at the beach.

The Beardsley family set up a Thanksgiving table for about 40 at Bolsa Chica State Beach while roasting turkeys in a customized fire pit.

"Lots of planning, lots of prep and lots of good family. That's all it takes," Sean Beardsley, the burly chef preparing this meal, told KTLA. "It's the best way to go."

For years, the Beardsley family has piled into recreational vehicles, eight this year, and met at the beach to celebrate Thanksgiving. Sean Beardsley wraps turkeys in foil and chicken wire, throws them into the fire, then covers the pit with corrugated metal and sand.

"Underneath coals for six hours and pull it out, and it's perfect every time," he said.

Warm offshore winds are expected to push beach temperatures into the mid-70s today. Valley and inland areas are expected to top out in the lower 80s.

Because of the warm weather and dry conditions, firefighters are on alert across the region. Orange County crews put the finishing touches on an 80-acre fire that broke out along the 241 toll road in Anaheim Hills Tuesday night. Full containment is expected later today.
