3 suspects in Newport Beach home invasion robbery in custody

Three suspects in a home invasion robbery inside an exclusive Newport Beach gated community were in custody today as police searched for at least one more person.

Four males with handguns forced their way into a home on a street called Longboat, off Pelican Ridge, said Newport Beach Police Lt. Craig Fox.

Police were notified of the robbery around 10:15 p.m. Tuesday when someone called 911 with a cell phonefromm the back yard of the house.

Three suspects were in custody early today, including one who was hospitalized for a broken ankle. At least one neighboring home was evacuated and a SWAT team searched the area for at least one more suspect.

One resident was struck or knocked down and injured. They were transported to a hospital for treatment.

At least one weapon had been recovered.

It was not clear whether anything was taken during the home invasion.

Irvine police were assisting, said Sgt. Gary Wyatt of the Irvine Police Department.

Though the neighborhood is about two miles inland, it is located in a part of Newport Beach known as Newport Coast.
