Firefighters extinguish Newport Beach house fire

Firefighters today put out a fire at a house in the Santa Ana Heights section of Newport Beach, a fire official said.
The fire at a one-story 5,000-square-foot home at 2905 Paper Lane, near Anniversary Lane, was reported around 12:20 a.m., said Newport Beach Deputy Fire Chief David Mais. It took firefighters about one hour to put the blaze out, he said.

A man and woman inside the house escaped without injuries, Mais said.
A portion of the roof collapsed in the blaze, according to a camera crew at the scene.
The cause of the fire was under investigation.
