Violence in Mexico hits close to home for El Monte school children

Violence in Mexico is hitting close to home for school children in El Monte.

An assistant principle at El Monte High School was grabbed at gunpoint and then murdered Wednesday in Mexico. Thirty-three-year-old Agustin Roberto Salcedo was with his wife visiting her home in the Mexican state of Durango. They were having dinner in a restaurant there when armed men burst in and took him away along with five other people.

All six bodies were found near a canal. All had been shot in the head. Salcedo grew up in Los Angeles and was just re-elected to another term on the El Monte City School District board. Salcedo’s wife was not injured.

They were married two years. She was a doctor in Mexico and was studying for exams to practice medicine in the U.S.
